The DryVac System is a commodity approach to handling of difficult oil and industrial flows. The System creates commodities in sales oil, recovered lime, process water and other economic assets. In the process, we dramatically reduce waste handling cost and produce a cleaner, greener environment. Our motto at DryVac Environmental Services is, good business = good environmental policy.
The DryVac technology provides a cost effective integrated process for dewatering and drying, handling organic and inorganic waste streams, which may be laden with hydrocarbons and other hard to filter media. In a single operation involving two stages, the liquid waste is first filtered / dewatered and then dried. The latest technology plates, DryVac Elastic Envelope Modules (DEEMs), makes the single operation possible. These modules expand and contract according to pressure being applied either externally or internally.
Stage One: The dewatering takes place by pumping the conditioned sludge into the sludge chambers, which are lined with filter cloths; solids are retained in the press while liquids are forced out.
Stage Two: In the drying stage, low-pressure steam is used to inflate the DEEMs and, at the same time, a vacuum is applied to the filtrate ports. During this process the cake is squeezed as the DEEMs inflate. This application of heat to the filter cake, and the pulling of a vacuum on the filter chamber, result in the remaining liquid being vaporized at low temperature. The walls of the expanding DEEMs remain in contact with the sludge ensuring effective heat transfer. By regulating the duration of the drying stage, the dry solids of the end product can be accurately controlled. Because the cake is drier, at the end of the drying cycle the solids drop out easier, leaving the DEEMs clean.
The process is energy efficient and it allows wide flexibility of design. The DryVac systems are available in varying capacities to accommodate customer needs. The system can be supplied in modular formats for ease of installation allowing maximum flexibility; some mobile units are also available. Cycle times are dependent on dry level desired and material composition.
DryVac equipment is fully automated which reduces OPEX costs and eliminates human error. Negligible odor emission and no explosive dust environment combined with low pressure steam allows for safe operation.
DryVac equipment provides a clean and closed loop process, which maximizes environmental benefits. Zero to low carbon emmission is achieved depending on the geography and application.
DryVac equipment performs dewatering and thermal vacuum dehydration through combined effect of pressure, heat and vacuum. DryVac can use waste heat, solar thermal and power for increase in energy efficiency.
Proven and flexible
DryVac has a long history of installations for varying applications including oil, water, agriculture, chemical and mining industries. In these applications it has been proven to dewater to 20-40% and dry materials to 99%.
Ability to process variable feedstock including surplus activated, primary or digested materials in an automated and low maintenance environment makes DryVac stand out from competition.
Depending on the project requirements, DryVac can be modularized and skid mounted to fit specific needs of the end user.

DryVac Technologywas originally founded in the 1980's as Simpson Environmental Services of Richmond, California. We began manufacturing standard filter presses for use in plating shops, pigment production and oil tank cleaning.
In the early 1990’s, after the development of the specialized plate, whichcould dewater and dry slurries in a single unit, DryVac Environmental Services was born.
Using previous experience, the original DryVac units consisted of small systems for dewatering and drying of metal hydroxides, paint pigments, wastes and slurries in oil tank bottoms.
As the years progressed, significant research and development concentrated in creating plates with a more robust plastic. This resulted in the production of bigger plates and, hence, larger units.
In 2000, DryVac Environmental Services investigated worldwide to locate the best advances in technology and, perhaps more importantly, the engineering capability to properly use these technologies.
As the search continues, DryVac Environmental Services transitioned into a full service company providing process handling the oil, industrial, agricultural and municipal sectors
DryVac cleaned many hydrocarbon laden materials, including drilling muds, produced water and cuttings to non detect hydrocarbon level and got it delisted by the Alberta, Canada EPA, for Shell oil in Canada. DryVac eliminates the disposal of perfectly good oils, saving money and liability for future clean up.
Wastewater sludge treated by DryVac system qualifies as Class A eq. DryVac system works for all wastewater sludge including RO rejection, anaerobic, aerobic and activated sludge and allows the recycling of water.
DryVac system can dry chemicals, paint, pigments and dyes up to 99.9% in a closed environment. Safer and cost efficient compared to the thermal dryers and allows the recycling of water.
Dry pulp to allow for it to be recycled or used as secondary product or fuel while allowing the recycling of water.
All agricultural wastes can be dried to secondary feed products or fuel. This includes aquaponics, fisheries, cattle, poultry etc. and allows the recycling of water.
DryVac captures the metals such as cadmium, gold, silver and allows the recycling of water.
DryVac can be used as part of the mining process to achieve higher efficiency for capturing the minerals such as gold and silver. DryVac can also used to clean mine tailings and drying out tailing ponds. DryVac is also used in brine water management especially in shaft mine applications
